Thirty minutes by car from central Budapest and you’re in Csömör — a suburb with a small lake, quiet residential streets (and a massive Auchan, Decathlon and OBI). And right there, next to the church, stands what looks like an ordinary house — except its doors are open to everyone Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 to 12:00 and 16:00 to 21:30.
This is Kultúr 2 Bisztró — a genuinely home-style restaurant with a big garden and the atmosphere of old Hungarian dining rooms inside. The name says it all: the place regularly hosts cultural events, and the owners post their current programme on their Facebook page.
We arrived early on a Saturday morning for breakfast — and it genuinely made our day. Eating freshly cooked food in the garden, to the sounds of a waking town and church bells, sipping coffee from a beautiful cup — an unexpectedly calming experience.
